No room in your home or business offers more possibilities and dangers as the kitchen. Also, be sure to post warnings on all equipment about proper use, and make signs available for the floor if it is wet.
When buying new equipment you should look for some safety features. Granted, price is always a concern but spending an extra two hundred dollars for a stove with an automatic shut off may be worth it. Imagine an employee that forgets to turn the stove off when they go home. When you arrive the next morning you find your restaurant reduced to a pile of ash. That two hundred dollars on a small safety feature could have saved thousands of dollars.
Another thing to think about is kitchen ventilation. Smoke can cause an employee to get tired and sick, increasing the chances of there being an accident. Proper ventilation will funnel the smoke out of the kitchen and away from your employees. At home ventilation is necessary as well as smoke can harm you and anyone in the room with you. This can also cause your fire alarms to go off.
In addition to selecting the right equipment for the kitchen, everyone who will cook should undergo certain courses that demonstrate knowledge of kitchen safety and understanding the ins and outs of keeping the atmosphere free of accidents. Whether they learn through online training manuals or one-on-one training, having a group of trusted individuals in the kitchen can help you feel more secure about managing the risks of cooking.
